“Each of us can take a moment to remember these heroes and how they fought and sacrificed so future generations could be free,” ~ Ocean County Freeholder Virginia E. Haines, Chairwoman of the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation. “

The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II with a ceremonial tree planting scheduled for today at 11 a.m. (Friday, Oct. 2)

“This tree will be a beautiful tribute for those who served our country, it will serve as a living memorial to the soldiers and citizens who served on both small and large scales across the country and around the world during World War II.” ~ Ocean County Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari

The new Tulip Poplar tree's will be planted to take root on the grounds of the Courthouse as a reminder of the sacrifices made in World War II by area Veterans.

“Ocean County is home to over 40,000 veterans. Our World War II veterans were a part of the Greatest Generation.” ~ Ocean County Freeholder Gerry P. Little, liaison to the Ocean County Veteran's Service Bureau.

The event is being hosted by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders, with the Ocean County Shade Tree Commission, Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission, and the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation, the event will be held on the grounds of the 1850 County Courthouse at 118 Washington Street in Downtown Toms River.

Attendees should wear masks and practice social distancing during the event.
