While we could debate all day long about whether the data coming to light in the aftermath of the Ashley Madison hack is fair game for making public or not, there are an awful lot of men around the world who are in panic mode right now. And, according to new data, a lot of them could be right here in Ocean County.

In case you're not familiar, Ashley Madison is a website that exists for the sole purpose of facilitating infidelity. With the tagline of "Life is short. Have an affair", they've never shied away from stating exactly what purpose they want to serve.

About two weeks ago, a team of hackers broke into their servers and leaked dozens of gigabytes of user data; names, credit card info, email addresses, etc.

Needless to say, a lot of potential (and practicing) adulterers are very nervous right now.

While I won't be providing any links to the identifiable data (those so motivated can find that information out on their own), it is interesting to note where a number of Ocean County communities rank as far as Ashley Madison users' locations are concerned.

Based on ZIP codes, a Spain-based digital agency created a worldwide map that zeroed in on nearly ten thousand users that have been tracked to Toms River, in the top 10 of New Jersey cities that have been identified.

Manahawkin, Point Pleasant Beach, Barnegat, and Tuckerton all landed on the top 100 as well.

So what does this mean? Well, we'll leave the interpretation up to you. I'm not here to publicly pass ethical judgement (although, believe me, I have plenty of private opinions on the matter). But it is interesting to note the many thousands of accounts that have been traced back to us.

If you'd like to share your opinion, however, please feel free to do so in the comments section below.
