The Burlington Township man who shot and killed an employee of a medical office in South Jersey and injured a patient has been found guilty in court.

Bruce Gomola Jr., 54, of Burlington Township became irate when learning the details of his father's appointment were changed at the New Jersey Urology Office on Midlantic Drive in Mount Laurel on July 24, 2020, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

What happened in the fatal shooting of a medical office employee in Mount Laurel

Stephanie Horton, 44, of Willingboro who was working there as a Patient Services Representative came over to Gomola Jr. to explain what was going on.

Prosecutors said that's when he pulled out a .40 caliber handgun, shot her once in the chest and the bullet went through her back and into the knee of a nearby patient at the medical facility.

After the shooting, Gomola Jr. fled and drove off but then came back a short time later and surrendered to Mount Laurel Police without incident.

Horton was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where she passed away a short time later.

The patient who was hit in the knee with the bullet was hospitalized for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Sentencing set for former Burlington County Corrections Officer who killed medical office employee

A jury in Burlington County Superior Court found Gomola Jr. guilty this week on charges of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter and Second Degree Aggravated Assault but Burlington County Prosecutors said the jurors declined to convict him on the charge of First Degree Murder.

The former Burlington County Jail Corrections Officer is scheduled to be sentenced in April and until then, remains in the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown.
