Neptune Police Sergeant created Facebook account to contact a woman
A suspended Neptune Township Police Sergeant has forfeited his post and any public employment in the future after pleading guilty in court to impersonation and identity theft, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.
Matthew Webb, 38, admitted to using information obtained through the criminal justice information service database to contact a woman through a Facebook account he set up with a fictitious name.
The 13-year veteran of the Neptune Police Department, Webb pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree Impersonation/Identity Theft before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Ellen Torregrossa-O’Connor.
As part of his plea agreement, Webb forfeited his position with the police department and any future public employment in the state of New Jersey.
The plea agreement also calls for a sentence of probation but permits Webb to apply for admission to the Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) program.
Webb is scheduled for sentencing before Judge Torregrossa-O’Connor on August 16, 2019.
When pleading guilty, Webb admitted that on February 5, 2019, he used information obtained through the Criminal Justice Information Service database in order to contact a woman through a Facebook account he set up in a fake name.
He acknowledged he was on duty when he contacted the woman and that he did so, not for any law enforcement purpose, but for his own personal benefit.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Melanie Falco, director of the Office’s Professional responsibilities and Bias Crimes Unit.
Webb is represented by Giovanna Giampa, Esq., of Passaic.
