Cindy came to us in July 2014 from our Newark facility after she was seized from the awful place that she was living in.  Cindy was one of three dogs that lived in a garbage-strewn yard in Newark where she knew nothing but heavy chains, trash, and cruelty, day in and day out.  Cindy is only about 2 1/2 years old, and lived her whole life in these horrific conditions (as seen in the picture on the left).  Her owner was a heartless individual that wanted Cindy and the other two dogs for nothing more than "guarding" his property and having puppies.  He did not provide food, fresh water or shelter for them, and they were all suffering terribly.  Our AHS Animal Control Officers went out when they were alerted to the situation and seized the three dogs and brought them to safety.  Unfortunately, the animal law enforcement agency for NJ informed our people later that they must give the dogs back to the owner, and give him a chance to correct the situation.  These poor dogs were safe, warm and fed for the first time in their lives, and they had to go back to their miserable existence.

After a lengthy dispute with the owner of the dogs and the law enforcement agency, we were able to get the dogs back in our custody.  Sadly, one of the three dogs was given away by the owner, and we'll never know what happened to him.  Lollie and Cindy came in and were so happy to be in good hands and receiving the medical care and attention that they needed.  Both were dehydrated, emaciated, and had several medical issues from the neglect that they suffered, but we got them all healed up and healthy, and ready to start over.  Lollie got adopted, but Cindy still waits.

Cindy is the kind of dog where is she wags her tail, it will absolutely make your day.  She is still very shy, and understandably so.  She is not the least bit aggressive and holds nothing at all against people, but it's obvious that she is not used to being treated with kindness and she is unsure what to make of it.  She is quiet and well behaved, and when she gets to know you, she enjoys getting attention and being shown that everything will be okay.  Cindy will need a quiet home with patient people that will give her the time to trust and love.  She doesn't know anything about toys, and doesn't even know much about running and playing.  She needs a family that will show her all of that, and show her how great life can be.  Cindy gets along fine with other well behaved dogs and would do best in a home with mature children.  Please spread the word for our sweet little girl.  She deserves the best home ever, with a family that will never hurt her again.
