Manchester man arrested amid string of car burglaries in Crestwood Village
A Manchester man who allegedly looted a car, stole a debit card and tried buying things with it is facing charges including burglary, theft and possession of stolen property.
Anthony Pope, 40, of the Crestwood Village V section of the township is accused of entering a woman's unlocked car Sunday night January 21 around 8:30 pm on Constitution Boulevard and stealing her debit card along with $4.00 in cash.
The victim, who was parked in front of her parents house at the time, got a call from her bank a short time later saying her card was being used at several businesses.
As Police began their investigation they were able to secure video surveillance of the illegal activity.
Speaking with other citizens and reviewing the tapes led officers to Pope's home Monday on Penwood Drive where they confirmed he was the suspect.
Following his arrest Pope is charged with one count each of burglary to motor vehicle, theft of movable property, possession of stolen property and computer criminal activity.
After processing and in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform, Pope was released on a summons pending court.
Manchester Police have been investigating several car burglaries in the Crestwood Village section of the Township in the past two months alone.
Those investigations are still ongoing.
