Legendary Hand’s Department Store to Close on LBI

The legendary Hand's Department Store is allegedly closing according to LBI Bulletin Board on Facebook. Hand's has been on Long Beach Island for over 55 years, opening in 1952. Hand's carries everything from suntan oil to bathing suits to LBI souvenirs.

According to the LBI Bulletin Board, the store has been purchased and will be demolished in April. No word on what will take its place.

Area residents are saddened to see another longtime local business close up. Is it an improvement for the future or a step back? Guess it depends on who you ask and what eventually becomes of the space. Only time will tell.

I will have to make a visit over to LBI before the doors close for a final time.
