Most of us have seen signs like the one above - it's state law that vehicles must stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. In reality though, it doesn't always happen, and sometimes the impatience of a driver leads to tragedy. Well, one Ocean County police department is driving the point home.

The Berkeley Township Police Department is currently running an undercover operation on Route 9, one of the busiest roadways through Ocean County for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

If you see a person crossing the road through a crosswalk, you'll definitely want to stop for the pedestrian. If you don't, the next thing that you see in your rear view mirror could very well be the red and blue lights of a police car.

Undercover officers posing as pedestrians are putting drivers to the test. If you follow the law and let the pedestrian cross the street, you'll have nothing to worry about.

However, if you're too impatient and cut the person off, there are Berkeley Township Police watching, and they will notice.

It'll also cost you. They're not giving out friendly warnings, they're giving out costly tickets.

So be safe. We all have places to be, we have to keep in mind that the law is there for a reason, to protect both drivers and pedestrians.
