Berkeley Township is coming together for a remembrance for one of their own. June 1st is shaping up to be a heartfelt day in Bayville as the community gathers to honor a beloved local figure.

The Bayville community is coming together for a special day and date for an owner of a restaurants that we all knew and loved, especially if you lived in Bayville.

Bob Popovics died in November due to injuries from a hit-and-run in Seaside Heights. It's such a sad story.

Robert, Bob (as most of us knew him), owned the Shady Rest Restaurant in Bayville for many, many years.

From Shady Rest Restaurant Restaurant Facebook page:

Bob was loved by so many in Berkeley Township and all over. Not only did he own the Shady Rest Restaurant but he was also a well-known fly fisherman and "Pop Fleyes" setting the standard for saltwater flies, thanks to patch.com.

According to the Shady Rest Facebook page, celebrate Bob Popovics Day in Bayville JUNE 1st, 2025. (They're hoping to make it statewide, Bob Popovics DAY).

There's a celebration for Bob Popovics Day June 1st at Shady Rest Restaurant.

June 1st was chosen because of Bob's beloved rose garden right at the restaurant.

From Shady Rest Restaurant Facebook Page: "The patio will be cleared of all tables from 8 AM to 11 AM for light breakfast and portraits, then we'll add specials on Bob's favorite dishes during regular service hours. Come and help our family celebrate Bob's memory on Bob Popovics Day!"

Shady Rest Restaurant is located on Rt. 9 in Bayville. Personally, I miss seeing Bob on his golf cart, driving around his parking lot at Shady Rest, checking everything out before they opened for the day.

If you go to Shady Rest, you know how hard it is to get a spot on the deck or porch, once we got on it and really enjoyed it. It's usually packed. It's beautiful, surrounded by flowers.

It sounds like it will be a special day to remember a great guy!
