A Jackson man is looking at a possible five years in prison after pleading guilty to Death by Auto for causing an accident where he had a BAC of .17, which is more than double the legal limit in New Jersey.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said that at the time of his sentencing on January 11, 2021, the State will be recommending a term of five years New Jersey State Prison for Douglas Thompson, 56, of Jackson, which will be subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act.

Thompson will also plead guilty, at the time of his sentencing, to Driving While Intoxicated.

The accident took place on October 15, 2019.

Toms River Police were dispatched to the intersection of Route 9 and Stevens Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

An investigation followed and police learned that Thomas Marciano, 65, of Toms River, was stopped behind a motor vehicle making a left-hand turn when he was struck from behind by a vehicle operated by Thompson.

Marciano was transported to Community Medical Center and later flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center because of the serious nature of his injuries.

He passed away from those injuries on October 28, 2019.

Thompson submitted to chemical breath testing on the date of the crash, which revealed his Blood Alcohol Concentration to be .17 percent.

Ocean County Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Robert Cassidy and Senior Assistant Prosecutor Jamie Schron handled the case on behalf of the State.
