Scouts of Troop 462 met the challenge of earning the Girl Scouts Bronze Award by handcrafting and painting five meticulously-crafted bookshelves - then filling them with children's books and donating them to three shore institutions that tend to children facing dire problems of health and well-being.

The gifts are now in use at Oceans of Love in Toms River, Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, and Tina's House, connected to the Special Victims Unit of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

The Scouts were required to perform 20 hours of community service, with a goal of uplifting the community they inhabit.

Twenty hours is a great investment of time. But, who knows how many children's lives will be touched by their craftsmanship and generosity - surely much greater!
