Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the nation, but if caught early enough, it’s beatable and treatable. That's why RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey are teaming up to remind individuals 45 years and older to make an appointment to discuss the right colon screening for them. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

A gastroenterologist can find and remove polyps before they become cancer during the colonoscopy, while the stool test searches for blood or cancer DNA in the stool.

As the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey together with RWJBarnabas Health provide patients with the most advanced treatment and screening options close to home.
