Nobody likes sitting in an endless line of Garden State Parkway construction traffic. But, unfortunately, for most of us here in Ocean County, it's a way of life. It is what it is, and you just have to deal. But I was pretty stunned when I saw how a few drivers handled it on my way home last night.

Right after the Toms River toll plaza, the roadway merged down from three lanes to two, and then finally to one.

To the credit of most drivers, many people followed good roadway etiquette and merged politely. You always get a couple people who just have to be as far up as they can and try to sneak up until the very last second. And you have those people who refuse to let anyone merge in front of them, and force drivers to try to squeeze in.

But I can honestly say that I have never seen what I saw last night - in my sideview mirror, with all of the headlights behind me, I saw a pair of lights flying up the left shoulder. I figured it must be a police car, a construction vehicle, or another official of some kind. But no, it was a BMW with New York plates who apparently thought that the lanes didn't apply to him.

I wish I could have seen where he ended up, and man do I wish he had gotten pulled over. But once I got up to the point where the lanes opened back up, I didn't see any sign of him.

I also saw at least two vehicles who decided to use the closed lanes on the other side of the cones (where construction vehicles hadn't been set up yet) to try to get as far up as they could.

I'm sure these things happen all the time, but I've never seen it happen at least three times in one trip.

I guess you just have to hope that car karma exists and that it will catch up with them as some point.

So what's the most obnoxious thing that you've seen another driver do in a situation like that? Tell us in the comments!
