With shoppers across the country starting to strategize their shopping for next Friday, Black Friday 2019 (and yes, even next Thursday, Thanksgiving Day) and even into Monday the 2nd as plenty of online retailers embrace the relatively new "Cyber Monday" phenomenon, I wondered just how much people actually spend on the biggest shopping days of the year.

According to marketing company Pixlee, in 2017 over 174 million Americans shopped between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

That's more than half the whole population of the United States!

On average, those shoppers spent around $335 per person.

I'll be honest, I actually thought the number would be higher than that. But I suppose that's what makes it such a big shopping season, the bargains on big ticket items can save shoppers a lot of money.

Of those 174 million shoppers, a full third of them, 58 million, shopped online only.

With online retailers like Amazon going all-in on the Cyber Monday blitz, you don't even have to stand in line in the freezing cold at 3 a.m. to get the best deals.
