Maybe it’s me but I feel lately like the weeks and months are flying by but at the same time each day drags on like never before.

July is basically over and part of me feels like Memorial Day was yesterday but yesterday itself took forever.  Time feels so different even though nothing has changed. There’s still 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day.

While we might not be in the same “Groundhog Day” mentality we had back in the spring I do sort of feel like most days are similar.  It’s like the news is always about something to do with the pandemic and it’s really never anything good.

Okay things are better here in New Jersey then they were in April but the rest of the country is falling apart.  Nobody is really optimistic about anything and who really feels like things will be better in 30, 60 or 90 days or even longer.  By the way I am not counting the conspiracy theorists who feel like magically everything will change after the November election.

Sure some people are much better off than others and I guess there are those who walk around with perpetual smiles on their face but honestly for the most part when you ask someone how they are doing you don’t simply get too many who say, “great and how about you?”  It’s more like, “Well at least we are healthy BUT so-and-so has been laid off, my adult child has moved home, I can’t visit my mother in her nursing home and what am I going to do if the kids are not back in school in September?”  And that’s just for starters.

The difference between good and bad, happiness and sadness, optimism and pessimism and yes even love and hate is often a very fine line.  Unfortunately it just seems like we are on the wrong side of that line and we should good use a dose of good news to get us on the right side. And soon.

Goodbye July, welcome August.  Please throw us a bone!
