My friend Jim and I share an obsession when it comes to trying to enjoy each day and not rushing things.  We both love summer for different reasons as he works on the beach and I like to sit and relax on it.  However our philosophy of taking each day as it comes it not just about this time of year although it seems this is when we get most upset and want to slow things down.

The first reminder comes when the back to school ads start which occurred earlier this month.  That one does not bother me all that much because especially in the south kids start school rather early.  However what really strikes a nerve is any mention of Halloween at this time of year and while it is still 98 days away the hype has begun.  This week he texted me a picture of a Halloween candy promotion in a local convenience store and that same evening I saw the same thing in another store (see picture above).  We are more than three months away from this so-called holiday and we’re pushing candy?  I mean many have not even taken their planned summer vacation and it was necessary to put Halloween on the minds of adults and children?

I deplore this constant rush to get to the next “big thing” and it’s only a matter of time before the Christmas countdown begins.  It’s like that with everything and obviously motivated by one thing…money.  Well Jim and I and we hope you as well will not buy into this.  Forget Halloween…it’s July and we still have plenty of time to enjoy summer and that’s just what we’ll do.
