They say that the Meadowlands' American Dream Mall is going to open this March.

But, then again, they also said that it was going to open in 2006.

And 2008.

Then, in time for the Meadowlands Super Bowl in 2014.

Those dates all passed while the hulking shell and the now iconic indoor ski slope structure sat empty.

But it seems like this time it could actually happen, as work has progressed in earnest, including the much publicized indoor water slide installation this past fall.

With the promised date getting ever closer, the mall's website is now up (I wonder what they paid for the web address americandream.com), but is short on tenant specifics.

The best we have so far is a list of just over a dozen specific retailers from NJ.com including:

  • Aritzia
  • Banana Republic
  • Century 21
  • Gap
  • Hermes
  • Lord & Tailor
  • Lululemon
  • MAC Cosmetics
  • Microsoft
  • OFF 5th
  • Primark
  • Saks Fifth Avenue
  • UNIQLO
  • Victoria's Secret
  • Victoria's Secret PINK
  • Zara

Not on the NJ.com list but pictured on the American Dream website is H&M as well.

The article also notes that the mall is 75% leased which, by simple mathematical extrapolation also tells us that a quarter of its retail space is still unclaimed.

So, as it's been for the last decade and change, I'll believe it when I see it, but in fairness, this is certainly the closest that the project has gotten to completion yet.
