The school year begins today for the majority of students in the shore area and that comes with it some major changes for many of you.

Clearly more alarm clocks have been set to go off at an hour when for the last three months you could turned over and gone back to sleep.  Morning routines change drastically as many families have to juggle getting their children ready for school while they prepare for their own work day.

Breakfast, getting dressed, dropping young ones off for day care. It all comes with increased pressure to get out the door at a certain time so you won’t be late.

The start of the school year does not just impact students and teachers but in a way most of us.  School buses begin to roll again which will bring increased traffic to many roadways and neighborhoods.  Drivers have to be much more aware of their surroundings and watch for kids darting in and out of traffic with some on bicycles as well.

It also means patience when getting behind a bus that is making frequent pick-ups and drop offs, something that can be frustrating at times.  We all have to deal with it.

We at WOBM and Townsquare Media get a front row seat to the dramatic change that comes with the start of the school year.  Our studios and offices are in downtown Toms River and this area comes alive as students from Toms River High School South frequent the area during their lunch breaks.

That’s welcome news to many food establishments that benefit from the hundreds of students who leave school and search for something to eat and drink during their break.

The lazy days of summer are about to be replaced by the hustle and bustle that comes with the start of the school year.  It’s an exciting time, filled with unknowns and new beginnings. It’s also a time when safety is more of a concern than at any point in history. Here’s hoping it’s a great school year!
