Recently it has become an issue of whether or not to play Kate Smith music, especially "God Bless America" because of past songs by Smith that many have deemed "racist". The Yankees and the Flyers, to name a few, have already pulled the Kate Smith version of God Bless America from their stadiums. The issue has now become a source of debate.

Locally, Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher recently spoke out on the issue. In a recent Asbury Park Press article, the Mayor hit on the issue of "political correctness" saying "I have to ask out loud, when is it ever going to stop?" The Mayor made the comments during a recent Township Council meeting. The Mayor added, "My emotions get carried away".

This debate asks two questions: should her music be banned? And have we become too politically correct these days?
