Following up on our post yesterday about "Prescribed Burn" season in New Jersey, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service just issued a number of alerts for controlled burns that are taking place today.

Two alerts identify the Browns Mills area of the Brendan T Byrne forest as well as Monmouth Battlefield as the locations of controlled burn activity today.

There is also expected to be controlled burn activity in and around Manchester, Easgleswood, and Stafford Township in Ocean County.

Additionally, further south, burns will also take place in Wharton State Forest.

The alerts say that smoke will be visible in those areas as the prescribed burns are carried out.

Of course if you see what appears to be out of control smoke or fire, or smoke in other areas, it's always a good idea to contact your local fire department.
