If you're seeing smoke over Ocean County today, Friday, February 21st, don't worry, it's just from controlled burns.

In addition to a posting to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service's Facebook page about the busy day of prescribed burns, messages on the Garden State Parkway's electronic signs are up to alert motorists to the nature of the smoke, too.

According to the social media announcement, the activity will be widespread in New Jersey today, with prescribed burns taking place in almost half of New Jersey's 21 counties, including 5 locations in Ocean County:

  • Old Halfway Road and Cloverdale Farms in Barnegat,
  • Pinewald Keswick Road in Berkeley Township
  • Lacey Road in Lacey
  • West Veterans Highway in Jackson
