Brazen Morristown, NJ man charged for burglarizing Sea Girt, NJ home while residents slept

A brazen burglar from Morristown who snuck into a Sea Girt home while the residents were sleeping and robbed them has been found and charged for his transgressions.

The announcement of the Sea Girt home burglar's apprehension was announced by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

It was just as the sun was starting to rise, thereabouts, on Monday morning August 15 around 5:30 am when Sea Girt Police responded to a home on the 700 block of Morven Terrance after the couple who was sleeping upstairs in the rental awoke to find that several electronics along with cash, credit cards, and their Audi A5 parked in the driveway had all been looted, according to the MCPO.

The ensuing investigation into the Sea Girt home burglary led law enforcement to identify Justin Leuzarder, 39, of Morristown, Morris County as the suspect who allegedly ventured into the home through an unlocked back door around 2:00 am that day and stole the items.

Police said that the couple was uninjured and did not encounter Leuzarder through the course of the crime.

Leuzarder was found later that morning at a traffic stop in Denville, Morris County with the Audi and several other items that he stole and were subsequently returned to their rightful owners.

For his efforts, Leuzarder has been charged with third-degree Burglary and third-degree Theft.

“This is certainly not a problem limited to just one town or even one county – there has been a surge in motor vehicle thefts occurring statewide and beyond this year,” Acting Prosecutor Linskey said in a written statement. “Homeowners and renters alike need to remember to make sure that they lock their cars, take their key fobs with them, and please lock their homes. It’s chilling to think that the victims, in this case, were in their dwelling while the defendant was in the home.”

“This case presents a good opportunity to remind the public to please always remember to keep your home and vehicle locked,” Chief Macko said in a written statement. “Theft prevention is very often merely as simple as taking quick, easy measures to protect yourself and your property.”
