It's been almost a year and a half since the buzz started that popular convenience and gas chain Royal Farms would be opening their first Ocean County location in Brick.

Back in the fall of 2018, word came out that the former Jersey Paddler site at the intersection of Routes 70 and 88 would become home to the chain that's inspired legions of fans thanks to their fried chicken.

Another big announcement that came out for the Township followed hot on the heels of German grocery chain Lidl's word last spring that they'd be opening a location in Howell, which was followed up hours later by news that they're also looking to open a store in the Riverwalk Shopping Center at the intersection of Brick Boulevard and Hooper Avenue in Brick.

Today, Patch gave updates on both, with word that each of the projects are still in the works but haven't started construction yet.

For Royal Farms, the story says that the company is still working on getting their paperwork in order for all of the necessary approvals, but the plan is still a go.

The story is similar for Lidl, which the article notes, "...recently submitted permit plans that are under review by [the] Brick Township building department".

Both are hugely popular with loyal fans eagerly anticipating their arrivals in Brick.

We'll be sure to keep you updated as we hear more progress reports!
