Every year there are sightings of the potentially dangerous Portuguese man o’ war around New Jersey beaches. And a visitor to Long Beach Island last week caught one such sighting on video.

Watching the video, you can see how delicately the members of the Beach Haven Beach Patrol handle the creature , not only wearing protective gloves, but going so far as to scoop the critter up in a nest of sand, rather than handling it directly.

Interestingly, the Jersey Shore visitor who brought us this video is the same person who first shared the video of a beachgoer saving a nearly beached shark a few weeks ago, and is a Townsquare Media colleague of ours out of Poughkeepsie, NY.
