Army Corps of Engineers starts beach replenishment work in Toms River

Beach replenishment work, talked about and planned for years, is taking place at the Jersey Shore and those wishing to dip their toes in the water in Toms River may have to wait to see if those gates are open this summer.

The Army Corps of Engineers is starting up projects along several shore communities and will close 1,000 feet of beach at a time, according to Toms River officials.

"Construction could begin sooner or later than the dates listed below based on weather, equipment issues and overall progress," ACOE told Toms River officials. "There is no way to predict exactly where construction will take place at a specific time due to the numerous variables involved. "

Ortley Beach, a section of Toms River, looks like it'll be first in line.

The North Beaches are tentatively scheduled to start in early to mid-August.

The Toms River Township Engineering Department says they will be providing daily progress updates on beach closures on their website and social media pages.
