An Uplifting Story About a Young DJ Making a Difference in Ocean County
Matt DeRiggi is a student at Toms River High School North, but Matt along with his co-host and producer Mark put on the DJ Matty D Show at Ocean County College in Toms River. Matt, who is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, is making a difference despite his disease to bring his love of music to radio fans in Toms River. Matt (19) was diagnosed with the disease when he was just 6, but continues to amaze residents around Ocean County. Matt is an avid sports fan and can be seen at lots of Mariner sporting events. He is truly an inspiration for all of us here at the Jersey Shore.
Matt has been involved with helping area first responders and with our U.S. Military Troops who are stationed overseas.
We'd like to thank Toms River Schools and Ocean County College and the head of the communications department at OCC Lee Kobus for arranging this visit from Matt and Mark.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a disease that attacks the muscles. Eventually, the disease weakens the heart and lungs. Our prayers and thoughts are with Matt and the DeRiggi Family and we are better today for having met this truly inspirational young man! I know I'll be listening to Matt!
