Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) actually started as a high-stakes military project in 1942, when it was commissioned as Naval Air Station Atlantic City to train fighter and bomber pilots for World War II.

After the war, the Navy handed the keys to the FAA in 1958, turning the site into a massive research hub now known as the William J. Hughes Technical Center, while the local New Jersey Air National Guard took over the military side.

Commercial travel really picked up in the late 70s once the casinos arrived, and today it serves as a small, low-stress alternative to the massive Philly or Newark hubs.

Today, it was announced that Atlantic City International will be adding additional service. According to their press release, "Breeze Airways, the premium leisure carrier providing affordable, direct flights from underserved markets, today announced two new nonstop routes from Atlantic City to Charleston, S.C., and Raleigh-Durham, N.C., as well as one-stop, no-change-of-plane BreezeThru servicto Tampa, Fla. The new flights will begin in May and June with fares starting from $39* one way."

“Atlantic City is not only a great destination for travelers, but also a gateway to many other metro areas,” said David Neelemanfounder and CEO of Breeze Airways. “We know Atlantic City will be a welcome addition to our Guests in Charleston, Raleigh, and Tampa, and we look forward to introducing our new Guests in Atlantic City to Breeze.”

I love Atlantic City International Airport. It's conveniently located in South Jersey and makes traveling from the AC area so much more convenient. It's smaller, but it's so relaxed and has a very nice airport that is perfect for traveling back and forth from Florida. Easy drop off and pick up, and plenty of easy parking too. Anytime we can use AC Airport, we do.
