Barnegat Residents Injured In Parkway Ramp Accident
2 Barnegat residents were injured when their SUV veered off the northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway and ended up flipped over on the on ramp for exit 81 taking a light stanchion down.
47-year-old Diane Navarro was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center. 48-year-old John Bebel was taken to Community Medical Center. Their injuries are said to be serious.
Fire District Chief #1 John Lightbody says when they arrived at the scene at around 4:24 p.m., they found a male victim ejected from the vehicle and a female victim was trapped underneath.
Lightbody says fire stations 25,26 and Pleasant Plains Fire Companies were dispatched and stabilized the vehicle, then performed a lift of the vehicle using air bags to raise it off the trapped female. She was removed at around 4:34 p.m.
Lightbody says the victims were treated by the Lacey Township First Aid Squad as well as the Toms River Office of Emergency Management Emergency Medical Services before being transported to Community Medical Center. The female was stabilized and flown to the Jersey Shore Medical Center by Medi-vac helicopter.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the New Jersey State Police.
