A Kinder, Gentler Governor? – Hometown View

Random thoughts on the first day of spring which officially arrived at 1:14 this morning but of course has unofficially been here for a while.

Like it or not Seaside Heights will roll out the red carpet once again this summer for a pregnant “Snooki”, “JWoww”, “Pauly D” and “The Situation.” Yes MTV announced Monday that those cultural icons will film season 6 of the hit show Jersey Shore back in their old stomping grounds this summer. That means the guidos and guidettes are back in Seaside Heights at the same house they’ve made famous or infamous. Details of when the filming will take place have not been announced but you can be sure it will be right smack in the middle of the tourism season.

Will what happened during a town hall meeting Monday in Kearny result in a kinder, gentler Chris Christie? The Governor and a 2nd grade teacher had a 10-minute exchange that started with the woman, who is on maternity leave, telling Christie that she was scared to death to talk with him. Christie and the state teacher’s union have battled since he took office and the verbal exchange has been brutal and bitter.

The unidentified teacher said she tells her children that if you want to have a friend you need to be a friend and she really wishes that Christie and the NJEA could change their tone. Later the Governor thanked her for speaking up and apologized for the fact that he had scared her. Will it change anything down the road? One can only hope for the benefit of all.

The Manasquan High School girl’s basketball team will face Gill St. Bernard’s in the final of the Tournament of Champions tonight at the Izod Center at 6:30pm.

The Warriors are seeking to join Neptune as the only Shore Conference public schools to win the event and it’s the fourth straight year a shore team has made it to the finals. Saying this been an interesting season for Manasquan would be an understatement as it’s sometimes played out like a TV realty show complete with plenty of controversy on and off the court.
