For most of 2020 there haven't been a whole lot of good shopping stories with businesses both large and small announcing closures due to the economic blindside from the coronavirus pandemic.

But, if you travel Brick Boulevard in Brick on a somewhat regular basis, you've probably seen activity picking up at Bay Harbor Plaza (the Stop & Shop plaza).

You can tell that the building that's going up on the long vacant site of a former gas station is going to be a drive-through of some kind at this point in the construction.

But what kind of drive-through, exactly?

Well, this is actually a project that we heard about more than a year and a half ago when the Brick Township Planning Board first approved plans to build a Starbucks there.

And that's exactly what we'll be getting.

A Starbucks on Brick Boulevard is going to definitely ramp up the coffee wars in Brick, with a Wawa across the road and a Dunkin' within walking distance.

Now, before you get all excited for an imminent stand-alone Starbies (there are already Starbucks counters nearby in both Barnes & Noble and Target, respectively), it's still a way away from pouring its first latte.

We first heard about approval for the project in December of 2018 and the construction broke ground just as the COVID-19 pandemic was breaking just about everything, so obviously work has been slowed and opening dates have been flexible.

We'll definitely be keeping an eye on it, though, and we'll update you as soon as we hear official word on when the Brick Boulevard Starbucks will be cutting the ribbon.
