Summer is truly a time to be enjoyed, more so than any other part of the year.

For me a big part of that is the beach which you likely know is my favorite place and where I’ll spend weekends and vacation time over the next couple of months. However that’s only a part of what makes summer at the shore so special and a time we should take advantage of.

Just think back to a couple of months ago when we were suffering through dreadful spring weather following what was for the most part a mild winter.  Many didn’t even put their winter clothes away until May and the two words we used most often were “wet and cool.”

Now you flash forward to late June and summer-like conditions have set in. I know many of you are not fans of heat and humidity but I welcome it after a miserable spring.  However it’s not just the weather but the lifestyle that summer affords which makes it so great. We have long days and nights to get out and enjoy things even if it’s a simple as sitting outside and sipping a cocktail, something you’re not going to do in January.

It’s wearing shorts and summer dresses while sandals are the top choice when it comes to foot wear.  No layers needed, unless you happen to work in a cool office.

It’s getting out of work and still having three plus hours of daylight to take a walk, ride a bike or read a book.  The grass is green, flowers have bloomed and birds are chirping away.  Fire up the grill and cook burgers, hot dogs and steaks and wash it down with an ice cold beer that will never taste better.  Like to fish?  On a beautiful summer day cast your line in the river, bay or ocean even if you don’t catch anything it’s still relaxing to many.

Go out and play golf, whether it’s 18 holes at Bey Lea or 18 at Smuggler’s Quay at Casino Pier.

Speaking of that we have boardwalks like no other and you can choose to just talk a leisurely stroll or find all the action you want in Seaside or Point Pleasant Beach.  There’s Breakwater Beach and Jenkinson’s Aquarium in those towns or head south to Long Beach Island and enjoy Thundering Surf and Fantasy Island.

There are 69 days between now and Labor Day.  Don’t waste them. Enjoy and cherish them.
