I guess partisan politics has existed in some form for generations but it sure seems like in today’s climate it’s become the way things are and both sides working together has become the exception rather than the rule.

If you listened to much of the rhetoric during the brief but costly government shutdown you came away wondering if Republicans and Democrats will ever work together for the good of the country rather than their party.  This is truly where most of us have become disenchanted with politics, especially on a national level.

This latest shutdown is a perfect example of what’s gone wrong with the way our so-called leaders operate.  The Senate and House did agree to a short-term funding bill that allows the government to fully operate as of Tuesday but only through February 8th.  That’s the deadline for both to agree on a long term measure which will be tied in with immigration policies even though the two issues have little or nothing to do with one another.

In other words each side has to give in to the other which I know is the way things work in Washington but has gotten to the point where there are no winners and the big losers are the American people.

Look, I won’t pretend to be an expert on anything important but I can say this with full conviction.  The system is supposed to operate whereby we elect people to represent us whether it be on a local, state or national level.  However those same people who campaigned asking for our vote then get into office and don’t represent us but rather their party.

It’s what’s turned the majority of us OFF and amazingly we have become so accepting to being lied to that we re-elect the same liars time and time again. There appears to be no end to partisan politics and little hope that those in Washington will ever put the good of the nation ahead of the good of their party.
