This is one of those radio contests that was ubiquitous really up until only the last 10 years or so, and it explains why you've seen so many WOBM bumper stickers over the years.

Here's how it worked:

  • Get a WOBM bumper sticker and slap it on your ride.
  • Fill out an entry form with your name, address, and license plate number.
  • Listen for us to call out your license plate number.
  • Call back within 9 minutes and 27 seconds and win a prize worth at least $200, plus a grand prize winner will get, "a brand new 1989 custom conversion van"!

You'll certainly recognize some of the mechanisms for this contest; register, listen to WOBM, call back within a certain amount of time (Vacation of a Lifetime, anyone?), but the classic "put our bumper sticker on your car to win" contests fizzled out within the last decade or so, as bumper stickers in general fell out of favor with the driving public.

But it goes a long way to explain why if you grew up in Ocean County, you'll certainly recognize this bumper sticker:
