I’m a bit confused.  This past Friday was referred to as the start of the holiday weekend but how can that be if today is a regular work day for many?  Sure it will be one in which a majority have taken or been given off while others will come in late or leave very early.  Of course tomorrow is July 4th and that is the official holiday and for many it will cap off what’s been a four-day weekend.

Just a reminder that there are fireworks in several locations Tuesday and the best ones will be in Beachwood around 9pm.  Anywhere along the Toms River is a great spot to catch the extravaganza or if you don’t mind getting there early you can try Beachwood Beach where there will be plenty of activity.  Just remember there are many parking restrictions in town so don’t expect to find a space close to the start of the show.

A couple of quick hitters:

Published reports say the Ocean County Board of Commissioners is expected to recommend another five-year term for county Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer next week.  What makes this somewhat of a headline grabber is Billhimer is a one-time Democratic candidate for county office and the board is made up of all Republicans.  It tells you the kind of job that he has done in his first term where he has drawn praise from law enforcement and many others.  Billhimer seems to work non-stop and is a very visible figure in the community.  Plus when he has time we do go to the same beach in the summer.

Speaking of which.  Beautiful beach days have been few and far between which is not good for all of those with a vested interest in tourism.  Predictions were for a great season but it’s all about the weather and we need plenty of sunshine over the next 6-8 weeks or there will be many unhappy business owners.

Tomorrow is America’s 247th birthday.  Aging a bit but still looking good!
