United Water Toms River customers can breathe a sigh of relief. The proposed increases around New Jersey will not be affecting you.

While New Jersey American Water is seeking a 15 percent rate hike and the man company United Water a 25 percent increase, the utility serving Toms River, South Toms River and Berkeley Township will keep their rates the same for the foreseeable future.

Spokesperson Jane Kunka says there was an increase in 2010 to cover a total of $25-million-dollars in improvements. She says it was money well spent.

Kunka explains "it was directly related to water quality improvements that were made to our Holly Water Treatment Plant and our new Berkeley Radionuclide plant in Berkeley Township on Mule Road."

Kunka says "we're always thinking of our customers and finding ways to provide the best service with the most cost effective plans." She says people can start saving money at home by conserving whenever possible. There is conservation  information at their website. Reach it here:

The state Board of Public Utilities must approve all requests for a rate increase. Public comment sessions will be held followed by a ruling by an administrative law judge.
