Two female swimmers were pulled to safety from the ocean in Seaside Park early Monday evening. Borough Police Corporal Steve Shadiack said beach bathers alerted officers who were patrolling the area on ATV at around 4:50 p.m. and the Scuba Team was activated along with the Seaside Heights Beach Patrol that offers mutual aid to the borough.

Shadiack said the 18-year-old and 20-year-old females were in distress near North Ocean and Lafayette Avenues. The Tri-boro First Aid Squad was also called in to assist but the women refused medical treatment at the scene.

The Seaside Park Beach Patrol is only on duty on weekends until school lets out on June 20th, according Shadiack. Until then, police patrols, the scuba team and Seaside Heights Beach Patrol provide assistance. He adds, the absence of the pier also makes it easier for the neighboring lifeguards to keep and eye on their shores.
