Two people are dead following the crash of a flat bed Tuesday night in Jackson.

Robert Johnson, 70, was driving a flat bed truck with his wife Shirley,62 to an accident on Cassville Road. Jackson Police tell the Star-Ledger  they ran a stop sign on Leesville Road at Cassville, drove into trees and burst into flames.

The couple was trapped in their truck despite the efforts of people to use fire extinguishers to douse the flames enough to pull them out of the cab. They were pronounced dead at the scene after the Cassville Fire Company put out the fire.

Cassville Road was closed for several hours as police conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.

Jackson Police ask any witnesses to call 732-928-1111.
