Today’s segment was one I could not imagine a year ago but then again who among us can predict what the future holds.  In late July of 1979 I began working at WOBM as their first full-time Sports Director and over the 44 years I did just about everything you can do in local radio…newscaster, morning show co-host, account executive, station manager and even Vice President of Quality Control.  I founded the WOBM Christmas Classic in 1984, began doing the Hometown View in 1996 and until this past spring was the Director of the Shore Sports Network.

Today I announce my professional career at WOBM and Townsquare Media is coming to an end on December 31…let’s call it a retirement from the broadcast industry.  There is no one reason for my decision and it is my decision.  Like with professional athletes there just comes a time when you know it’s over and its better when you know that before someone else does and makes the decision before you.

In an industry in which most work for multiple radio stations and companies in various locations I’ve managed to spend more than 44 years in Bayville and Toms River only and have always been attached to WOBM.  A daily commute of some 10 minutes or so has been a true blessing and so has the ability to attend just about everything my children did while growing up.  I was always okay with being a big fish in a small pond and have no regrets about that.

But it is time for me to move on.  There is another chapter to be written in my book and at some point you’ll know about that.  However even as I leave here on a daily basis you might hear my voice from time to time as I maintain a relationship with Townsquare Media.  Plus they’ve given me until the end of January to empty my office which is filled with memories and nostalgia most of which will end up in the garbage.
