Toms River pedestrian struck by vehicle

A Toms River man is lucky to be alive after being struck by a truck while crossing the intersection of Bay Avenue and Cedar Grove Road Saturday night, according to Township police.

23-year-old Zackariah Traut was crossing against a green traffic signal, according to a police report with witness accounts.

He was struck by the passenger side of a 2014 Nissan Frontier shortly before 5:30 p.m. while trying to get to the Ocean County Mall, according to the report.

Toms River Police Department spokesman Ralph Stocco told NJ Advance Media that Traut was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.

The accident remains under investigation.
