An extended investigation in response to fears voiced by residents of the Evergreen Woods housing development in Brick Township leads to drug and weapons charges against three men.

Jamie Crippen, 22 of Brick; David Thompson, 21, of Yonkers, NY; and Michael Santiago, 22,of the Bronx, NY, were charged after a May 15 search of a Belinda Court dwelling, a Toyota Solara and a Chrysler 200.

Brick and Howell Township police reportedly found crack cocaine, Oxycodone and Promethazine, along with a pair of handguns, nine-millimeter and 40-caliber, believed to have been taken during recent burglaries.

Promethazine, sometimes known as lean, sizzup, or purple drank, is a neuroleptic compound and antihistamine with strong sedative effects and mild antipsychotic effects. Illicitly, it's added to drinks for stronger mind-altering effects.

All three are charged with possession of a weapon and two counts of receiving stolen property. Crippen faces three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS). Crippen and Santiago are charged with possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. Thompson faces one count of possession of CDS. Santiago is also cited for driving without a license.

Bail for each was set at a full $75,000 in Brick Township Municipal Court, after which they were brought to Ocean County Jail in Toms River.
