Lifeguards through out Ocean County will be competing for bragging rights at the 18th Annual Battle at Midway on August 5th in Berkeley Township. Midway Beach Senior Lifeguard Rob Pearson said ten teams of lifeguards from various beach front communities will be showing what they've got when it comes to boat relay, paddling, running and swimming.

"Everything we have to do on a day-to-day basis for lifeguarding and lifesaving gets integrated into the events, so it's all relevant and functional kind of training for this," said Pearson.

Proceeds from the annual lifeguard tournament benefits the lifeguard association goes toward the purchase of lifesaving equipment and training, according to their press release.

Battle at Midway begins at 6 p.m. on August 5th It's free and open for the public and there's a trophy presentation afterwards at Jack's.

Midway Beach is a quarter of a mile long beach in Berkeley Township that's just before Island Beach State Park. The beach starts at 14th Avenue in Seaside Park as you enter Berkeley Township.
