Michael Vence, 40, is charged with two counts of impersonating a law enforcement officer, two theft charges, andc ounts of possession of controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia, according to Lakewood Police.

According to authorities, a 42-year-old Lakewood resident walked to headquarters and reported being robbed several hours prior, by a man claiming to be a cop, clad in dark clothes and a ballcap bearing the legend "POLICE."

He told Officer Matthew Rivera that as he drove on Cross Street, he was directed by the suspect to pull to the roadside, produce his driver's license and exit his car.

At that point, he was ordered to place his hands on the car to be frisked. After taking about $670, he told the victim that he was returning to his car to issue a ticket, climbed in, hooked a U-turn and sped away.

Officer Chase Messer matched the circumstances with a similar one, June 27 on New Hampshire Avenue in the Township, and the July 14 incident in Brick.

After determining that Vence was the suspect in all three, police found him in the Wendy's parking lot on Route 70 near Cambridge Avenue, in a 2013 grey Hyundai, where they said they also found two bundles of heroin, drug-related items and evidence pointing to impersonation of an officer.

Vence was placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at $30,000.
