The National Weather Service says Jersey Shore residents were buffeted with winds as high as 74 mph.

In northern and western areas of the state, some communities got more than six inches of snow.

Heavy rains also are raising fears of flooding.

The weather service says the strongest gust of wind was 74 mph recorded in Brick at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Other parts of Ocean County experienced gusts of up to 70 mph, and a 61 mph gust was recorded in Sandy Hook

The highest snowfalls were recorded in Sussex County. Highland Lake and Wantage each received about six inches. Montague received about five and a half inches.

Parts of Morris County got up to four inches.

The National Weather Service says as the storm moves away from New Jersey the Northeast’s heaviest accumulations will be in northern Pennsylvania, upstate New York and inland sections of several New England states before the storm heads to Canada on Friday.

Despite the wet weather, no flights are delayed Thursday morning cities like New York, Philadelphia and Boston.

At 7:00AM JCP+L is reporting just over 5000 customers without power on its outage map, mostly in Monmouth County with Aberdeen. Asbury Park, Freehold Township, Neptune and Belmar the hardest hit.

PSE+G is reporting under 500 outages in its service areas on its outage map and in a press release.

And if that isn’t enough, a wind advisory has been issued for the same time period as gusts are expected to reach as high as 50 mph.

After a respite Friday, snow is expected to return to the area Saturday.
