Stolen Car Pulled from Barnegat Bay
Plenty of cars wound up in Barnegat Bay after Hurricane Sandy. This one, say Toms River police, wasn't one of them.
A 2011 Ford Edge was lifted out of the mucky waters near the Tunney Bridge Tuesday, about 100 feet off the shoreline of the Pier One Motel.
Toms River PD Chief Mike Mastronardy says that New Jersey State Police alerted them to the submerged car Monday.
Corporal Paul Burkhardt of the Toms River police dive team jumped in, pulled a license plate from the car and established that no one was inside.
Police say the car was reported stolen January 23 from a driveway on Nostrand Avenue in Holiday City Berkeley Township. The search for a suspect continues.
