There really isn't any more delicate way to put this - if you're not "essential personnel", stay home today.

If you're not a police officer, EMT, firefighter, doctor, nurse, DOT driver, or radio DJ, there is literally nothing that will be accomplished from trying to drive on Ocean County's roads right now aside from an accident.

I lived in New England for about 8 years between college and my first radio job, and I can tell you from first hand experience that today's blizzard is right up there with the worst conditions that I've driven through in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

My drive in to work today, a trip that usually takes me about 17 minutes (but who's counting?) took me just over an hour.

It was single file down the Garden State Parkway, with vehicles following in the tracks of those in front of them.

I saw numerous cars that got stuck in snow banks or spun out.

And, let's be honest, nothing is open today anyway. So really, what reason is there to go out aside from maybe having to help an elderly parent?

It's not a joke. In addition to the county's state of emergency, Toms River Police are also telling people to just stay off the roads. Period.

Be safe out there, everyone! And stay with us for the latest forecast and Ocean County Stormwatch closings!
