Municipal governments would be spared the cost and time of chasing down overdue fees less than $10, under a shore-based measure that's cleared the state Senate.

Senator Chris Connors (R-9) sponsors the bill that would allow local governments to cancel delinquent small fees, eliminating what he views as a statutory stumbling block.

The upper house also approved his "Uniform Shared Services and Consolidation Act," which would allow one municipal Emergency Management Coordinator to oversee several contiguous communities.

The Assembly has taken no action on either companion measure, sponsored by District 9 Assembly members DiAnne Gove and Brian Rumpf.
