Son, daughter-in-law of NJ ex-mayor jump to death over finances, reports say
NEW YORK — A couple jumped to their death from a Manhattan building after struggling with financial problems, the New York Post reports.
Brick Shorebeat identified the pair —Glenn Scarpelli, 53, and Patrician Colant, 50 — as the son and daughter-in-law of former Brick mayor Joseph C. Scarpelli.
Police said they jumped from a ninth-floor window of a Madison Avenue building about 5:45 a.m. Friday.
They left suicide notes pleading that their two children be taken care of. One of the notes cited their "financial spiral" and "financial reality."
Initial news reports cited a law enforcement source who said that health care costs might have been to blame for the couple's finances, but the New York Post noted in its updated article that no mention of health care was in the couple's suicide notes.
