Shoveling snow in a storm of this caliber that's bearing down on the Jersey Shore can be dangerous, especially in people with existing heart conditions, according to Dr. Anthony Matejicka, Chief Medical Officer at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

"This is not the storm to go out and see how fit you are," said Dr. Matejicka. Snow that accumulates can be heavy and with the high winds, it's even more dangerous. "There's no need to go out multiple times to try and get in front of the storm."

He advised staying inside in the heat and reassessing when the storm is over. "Ask neighbors for help if you have to."

As the piles of snow get higher, Matejicka cautioned you'll be doing more lifting than pushing trying to shovel it. "Remember to bend with your knees. And if you have any chest pains or shortness of breath, just stop what you are doing and use common sense," he added.

Community Medical Center hasn't had to admit anyone for shoveling-related medical issues yet and no incidents were reported after Friday's storm, according to Matejicka.
