Thomas Gialanella, the outgoing Superintendent of the Jackson school district moves across the border to take a temporary assignment as head of the Toms River school system.

The Board of Ed appointed him to assume the interim post concurrent with current Superintendent Frank Roselli's retirement on June 30 - the same day Gialanella leaves his 11-year hitch in Jackson.

The board also appointed Dr. Marianne Gaffney as interim Assistant Superintendent.

Gialanella's accomplishments in Jackson include the establishment of Jackson Liberty High School - the township's second - as well as the addition of an elementary school, redrawing of attendance borders, infrastructure renovations and technology initiatives aimed at student achievement.

His 40-year career also include 29 years in the Brick Township school district, where he served as a teacher, guidance counselor, Assistant Principal at Brick Township High School, and assistant football coach.
