The Good Old Summertime, that's the theme of Jackson Day 2014 taking place at Johnson Park this Saturday, September 6th. Co-Chair Pat Wood said there's a full day of free family fun and entertainment planned. According to the Jackson Day press release, participants can expect games, amusement rides, old-fashioned potato sack and three-legged races, a giant Twister game, a children's petting zoo, a classic car show and fireworks at night.

"It's a good day to meet neighbors, friends, meet up with old friends, meet new friends and there's just such a variety of things that happen," said Wood.

However, since it started in 1976 as a celebration of the bicentennial, Wood said Jackson Day has benefited local charities that are able to raise money by selling food and beverages.

"One of the reasons we're so adamant about doing this is because it is the one day of the year for all of our nonprofit organizations in town to make money, said Wood. "We bring them in, they sell their wares ... we also promote all our local businesses."

The annual event also focuses on maintaining a clean and healthy environment and is sponsored in part by the Jackson Township Clean Communities and Recycling programs. Wood encourages everyone to bring a recyclable item with them.

The opening ceremony begins at 11 a.m. concluding with a fireworks display at dusk. Free shuttle bus service will also be provided from Jackson Liberty High School on Hope Chapel Road to Johnson Park from 1 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

In the event of very heavy rain, Jackson Day would be rescheduled for Sunday, September 7th. Wood said they will know by 6 a.m. Saturday. Schedule changes will be announced on WOBM FM 92.7 or WOBM AM 1160 or 1310. You can also call 732 928 1200 ext 1211 for a recorded announcement of any changes.
